His interest in Phytophthoras is mainly related to their diversity in natural habitats. This includes detection and identification of Phytophthora species in nature, and studying their population structure, genetic and spatial diversity.
Also interested in the effect of human activity on our environment since it can facilitate migration of Phytophthoras. As a result, new species may emerge after hybridisation of resident and immigrant Phytophthora species increasing the pathogen diversity in certain habitats.
