Kurt Heugens and Kris Van Poucke from ILVO (Belgium) visited Phytophthora Research Centre on 10th and 11th September 2019. Their visit involved two primary aspects. The first was the strengthening of ties and collaborative activities between the two groups. They presented their innovative work on Phytophthora species delimitation and hybridization using Genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS) which was followed by a group discussion on the applicability of the approach to the PRC’s future research aims. They were personally introduced to all PRC group members and each members’ main project and tasks were discussed, including visits to the laboratory and artificial inoculation experiments in the arboretum. The second aspect concerned the analysis of Phytophthora cambivora GBS data resulting from the collaborative study on P. cambivora populations. Kris and Kurt were able to interpret and comment on the results so far, as well as advise on the subsequent analytical approaches necessary.
